Abstract

Art spaces and institutions run by artist groups and collectives started to appear in the 1990s, mostly in Northern, Central, and Southern Taiwan, with independent and avant-garde ideas, as discovered in all their exhibitions, to construct the features of Taiwan’s contemporary art. It is the pillar with which the art scene in Taiwan has built their collective cultural identity through localization, while it is also a channel through which we come to realize how the contemporary art in Taiwan has initiated a dialogue with the trend of globalization.
